Space-saving under stairs solution, Herne Hill

This client wanted to make the most of their under-stairs space in their Victorian family home.

To maximise storage in a narrow Victorian hallway the client commissioned us to design and build fitted storage to include coat hanging, shoe storage and to hide the utilities unit. This was a tricky space, with 3 steps and a small return which added to the design challenge.

  • Our piece was designed to fit within the space seamlessly. We created a drawer in birch ply with dovetail construction, and a spray-painted finish with an accent yellow feature hanging space.

  • MR MDF, Blum push to open hardware, metal hanging rail.

  • MR MDF, dominoed, and screwed. Spray paint finish.

“Tom made an under the stairs cupboard / storage solution for us. It was an awkward space and other fitted furniture providers had actually given up on it, declaring it 'too hard'. But Tom immediately understood our vision and designed and made a beautiful unit that fits perfectly, was seamlessly installed, and has a lovely 'weight' to the materials he used so it feels completely integrated into the house. It really transformed the space. We will definitely be coming back to Tom for future projects.”
