Meet Tom
Hi, I’m Tom and I live in South London with my partner and two kids.
I run Thumb Designs, a premium bespoke furniture design and build company based in South London.
After becoming a carpentry apprentice at age 18, I gained NVQ level 3 in Carpentry. I worked my way up from site carpentry to becoming a joiner and a set carpenter for TV and film, working on sets for films such as Hot Fuzz, and ads for PC World among many others. I also worked in exhibition construction and project management for clients including Selfridges, Raw TV and Kensington Palace.
Fascinated by the design side of the role, I decided to pursue a qualification in design and in 2011 gained a degree in Product and Furniture Design from Kingston University.
I then worked for leading design agencies Acrylicize, Elemental Design and StudioXag as a client-facing project manager and production manager, leading on creative construction projects for clients like the NHS, Liberty, Adidas, Selfridges, Mont Blanc, Anya Hindmarch, Louboutin and Napapijri.
Keen to move into high-end furniture design, I worked as a production and workflow consultant for high-end kitchen company West and Reid based in Brixton. (Before Covid came along and changed everything ...)
In 2021, I founded my own furniture design and build studio Thumb Designs and enjoy combining all the skills I’ve honed over the years!
