Bespoke home office and reading nook, West Norwood

We were commissioned to design and build a wardrobe, large desk and seating area to make the most of the space in the loft room in this South London family home.

The brief was to bring elements of the stair design into the loft space, to help connect the areas.

“Tom made a bespoke beech staircase and desk for our home loft office. Tom worked with us and our architect to create the ideal look while keeping the project on budget. We were incredibly impressed by the quality of craftsmanship and Tom’s professionalism. Tom hit every deadline and installed both stairs and desk without any issues. I could not recommend Tom more highly.”

  • We used the same Beech hardwood in the same thickness as the stairs and added the 10mm shadows gap to tie the areas together. The seating area drops down from the desk height and provides a quiet space to read. We were also able to hide the printer underneath the seat and keep space under the desk clear, allowing it to float across the picture window framing the view over London.

The inside of the wardrobe is made from birch ply with a clear coat finish, giving a warm luxurious feel when the wardrobe is opened, a simple flat in framed door with long bar handle provide an elegant exterior. The under-desk socket was mounted into the side of the wardrobe for easy access.

  • Birch ply, MR MDF, Beech hardwood, Blum & Plank hardware, Osmo Raw wax oil clear coat finish, hand painted wardrobe exterior.

  • Dominoed and screwed together birch ply wardrobe carcass, MR MDF wardrobe exterior, jointed and glued Beech hardwood desk and seating. Hand finished in paint and Osmo Raw Wax oil.
